CAAMA MUSIC - ENDANGERED INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES
Brief: Conceive and develop artwork for a CD series of ELs
Worktime: 10 - 12 days
Applications used: illustrator / Photoshop / Indesign - export to PDF

Project Overview: The CAAMA Music logo is a wedgetailed eagle, which sits above the logotype. Myself, not being indigenous although being sensitive to their traditions, customs and beliefs, I opted for dots as a safe backdrop which has a link to Central Australian art without me having to masquerade as being indigenous. The biggest dot became a sun behind the logo, which the team liked. The colours are strong, bold, somewhat overpowering, and perhaps not appealling to all but my research showed a linking for strong colours within the indigenous community and so that was what I delivered. I also feel the texture has a natural feel to it.

CAAMA MUSIC - DAVID DOW EP
Brief:Using existing photography, create CD album artwork introducing David Dow.
Worktime: 24 hours
Applications used: Photoshop / illustrator - PDF export

Project Overview: The final artwork for this project was exported from Photoshop. Usually I'd create the layouts in illustrator or for booklets in Indesign but in an effort to save time I went with PS. The images were saved as tifs, placed within illustrator [no fonts] and exported to PDF. By doing this it gave me more time to give to conceptual development. Coming up with a quite a few concepts and variations, in the end I needed to ensure the art and photography suited eachother. With a limited palette to work with, I decided to use black as my base for a canvas, placing the images upon it for maximum contrast, strength and impact. David will be releasing an album later this year so hopefully we'll utilise some of my earlier ideas with some new photography.

CAAMA MUSIC - LAJAMANU
Brief:Conceive and develop artwork for a Lajamanu CD release titled 'Prisoner'
Worktime: 16-18 hours
Applications used: Photoshop / illustrator - PDF export

Project Overview: This album was dedicated to a recently deceased band member. After developing many concepts it was decided to go with a sombre, more reflective look. My hope was to unite, the members, the land and the title without creating a 'typival' prisoner feel. The metally, rivited look helps to achieve this. Imagery generated in photoshop while text and layouts were composited in illustrator.

SARAH SHAH - CD BOOKLET 6 PAGES 2004-05
Brief::
A solution for Sarah's works, it has now been expanded to 10 page.
Worktime: 24 hours
Applications used:illustrator / Photoshop and Eyecandy / Indesign

Project Overview: Sarah had some great shots of her out in the woods although most were in B/W which meant some restriction in what I could present. I drew up some squiggly artwork and focussed on producing a 'natural' / 'woody' feel to match her personality, the pureness of her songs and of course, the photography. Along with these elements I wanted to add a certain femininity / sensitivity. The album title, 'Open Eyes' lent itself to the styling - with me incorporating some brail dots which spell 'Open Eyes'. If possible, the brail dots will be embossed / slightly elevated. Lastly I created from the little squiggly drawings I had done, the initials of Sarah Shah.

HEVAL - 'DOORWAYS' ALBUM ARTWORK
Brief:
Conceive and develop artwork for a Heval CD release titled 'Doorways'
Worktime: 36 hours
Applications used:Photoshop / illustrator - PDF export

Project Overview: Doorways was the studio culmination of 2 years work for the Award winning World Music ensemble which is HEVAL. Jonathan Nanlohy, Pete Mulas and I captured a shot of a buildings inners before being torn down which was used on the back cover as a metaphor for the emptiness behind a facade. A doorway leading nowhere, in the middle of nowhere. All the imaging techniques were inspired by the famous Hypnosis record covers from the '70's. I used some of the buildings brickwork as the inner sleeves background texture.
